From mimesis to agency

Psychoanalysis was built on findings from the study of adult patients: reconstruction of the early stages grounded the model of neuroses. Child analysis came later, prompted by Ferenczi urging Melanie Klein to enquire directly into the infant mind. Its findings modified the insights gained from the neuroses: mainly, an in-depth understanding of the pre-Oedipal stages, symbol-formation and psychic evolution.
