ABSTRACT

Many readers of this book may have had a Christian upbringing – perhaps the bulk of readers – or have lived in the UK or other countries where Christianity is still dominant in the culture if not in practice. For those readers for whom this is true, they are asked to forgive the author for the degree of ignorance assumed in the writing of this chapter. It seemed more sensible to treat Christianity, like the other religions, as something that a considerable proportion of readers would know little about.
