The book began with a conflict, between theory and practice, theorists and practitioners. This book has attempted to explain the links between production process, product, media organisation and media industry as a way of developing a common language for this debate. The aim has been to enable a more productive debate within and between these two communities about key issues, like the degree of creativity and innovation in content production by the media industries. By explaining the detail of production processes, and their change over time, the intention is also to inform broader theoretical and political debates about ideology, representation and bias in media content and the appropriate role for political regulation.
