ABSTRACT

Health is an asset, and for most people the best way to protect and promote their health is with sensible behaviors: attention to safety, good nutrition, and regular exercise. But when caution and good nutrition fall short, people widely seek help from physicians and therapists. Suddenly issues arise: First comes the choice among different traditions of intervention such as internal medicine, chiropractic, or holistic healing. Second, given a tradition, each practitioner has a unique style and level of competency: some are outgoing and some are not; some are aggressive and some are not; some like to prescribe drugs and some prefer surgery; some are safety conscious and some are risk takers. Finally, there is the issue of cost. Most health care providers are expensive.
