ABSTRACT

We had a bit of a dilemma when planning the format of the book, and it revolved around the order of presentation for the cohorts. If we decided to present the groups in ascending order, that is, sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate, then we are presenting them in the opposite order the authors experienced them. The disadvantage with this order of presentation was that the staff development and curriculum evolution is in a descending order rather than cumulative as it would be if we presented the cohorts in a chronological order. We decided to maintain our book focus on student development. The ascending order was better suited for this purpose and it was in keeping with the stairway metaphor introduced earlier.
