ABSTRACT

Vincent Tinto visited our campus in November of 2001. The campus-wide notice announced the title of his talk as “Learning Communities: Reconstructing Student Learning” and that it was free and open to the public. Dr. Paige knew nothing about Learning Communities (LC) and had never heard of Vincent Tinto, but she was intrigued. He was the Chair of the Higher Education Department at Syracuse University, and she was busy working on a dissertation that focused on preservice teachers and higher education. She thought she might pick up something new, and she did, but it was nothing she had anticipated.
