ABSTRACT

Hayekian political epistemology requires a general epistemology, that is, a theory of how knowledge is acquired and communicated. If political-epistemological debates are to be resolvable, even if only in principle, this epistemology must be an empirical epistemology and not a rationalist epistemology. Mises offered an untenable rationalist epistemology. Hayek’s own theory of knowledge provides a secure foundation for further political-epistemological inquiry.
