ABSTRACT
These books [E403/1758-1804] are a chronological list of all payments made by the four Tellers of the Exchequer, once the authority from the Crown (via an Order or Warrant from the Lord Treasurer and another from the Auditor) had been confirmed and the Clerk of the Pells had entered details of the payment with the date of entry in his Book or Roll. E403/1758-1804 are fair copies of the list of payments, drawn up some years after the actual transactions. The entries are often duplicated elsewhere - for instance in the incomplete series of Declaration Books (Pells) [E403/294 et seq.] and in the more cumbersome (but complete) Issue Rolls [E403/937-999]. A typical entry reads:
