ABSTRACT

All available evidence suggests that, for many organizations, performance appraisal is an essential feature of best training practice and the most important means of identifying individual training needs. A well-structured and controlled performance appraisal system provides part of the framework in which the trainer must work. As performance appraisal lies at the interface between the trainer and the line manager, it also offers a valuable means of developing the latter’s responsiveness and responsibility to training. Credible performance appraisal can thus assist significantly in taking the organization up the learning curve.
