ABSTRACT
A loud and pompous celebration of the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of Vuk Stefanovic Karadžić, with a plethora of both Yugoslav and foreign scientific symposia, publications, newspaper articles, television programmes, political interpretations was organized in Belgrade and throughout Serbia in 1987. It was even suggested that a federal law should be enacted which could oblige all the federal republics of the former Yugoslavia to organize similar celebrations.
