ABSTRACT

Most of my research into Alpha over a period of five years has been primarily concerned with understanding and accounting for the 'consumer side' of the course in the churches. This is also a principal interest and focus for Holy Trinity, Brompton, although undoubtedly for different reasons. Among the key questions that I have centred on regarding Alpha in the churches are the following: What do guests expect to get out of the programme and, indeed, what do they get out of it? Does Alpha satisfy a range of spiritual, emotional, psychological or less specified needs? Are they satisfied or disappointed? These questions have been partially addressed in earlier chapters and they will be more stringently approached in the next and following chapters.
