ABSTRACT

Our thesis states that for Karl Barth the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the reality, revelation and power of the crucified Lord in nobis. To the question, ‘can the reconciliation of the world with God accomplished in [Jesus Christ] consist in anything but the dissolution of the world?’ 1 Barth answers a confident ‘Yes.’ What is yet to be understood is the manner in which that transition comes about. How is it that there is this beyond to the finality of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ? What is the nature of this transition? These are the questions Barth addresses in CD IV/1, §59.3, ‘The Verdict of the Father.’ And this is the matter which occupies our attention in this chapter.
