ABSTRACT

Environmental issues in supply chain management are of increasing importance to business operations. Organizations realize that effectively managing their environmental burdens and pressures requires the adoption of green supply chain management (GSCM) strategy. This chapter discusses the external forces that influence the adoption of corporate greening and environmental management efforts. The environmental concerns facing organizations are also introduced. We then provide an introduction of various issues within GSCM. The definition of GSCM, GSCM practices, and GSCM drivers/barriers are delineated. Since this is the introductory chapter of the book, we also depict the key ideas of other chapters in the book, aiming to provide a broad overview of the topics covered.
