ABSTRACT

Pick up any business periodical or read any business-focused blog, and you will find a great deal being written about how we are working, how we should work, how we will work, and how work is changing. Search online for “mobility,” “work flexibility,” or “changing work” and you’ll get millions of hits. These are well-worn topics and there is significant information in the system that creates noise. Here, I offer some new perspectives-new lenses-on these old topics suggesting the importance of integration of life and work over a lifetime, and the importance of creating perceptions of capacity and abundance for employees. Sometimes, looking at the same thing in a new way offers new clues that we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Leaders who align work-life supports with their organizations and adapt them appropriately will realize business benefits.
