ABSTRACT

The boundaries between the sociocultures, milieus, classes or tradition lines and habitus groups correspond to demarcations in the symbolic universe. In Wittgenstein’s words, the language-games are determined by forms of life. However, these boundaries are fluid and can be crossed. Furthermore, the boundaries of one layer of meaning do not necessarily correspond to those of another layer. And in the case of Laos, classes and habitus groups in the capitalist socioculture are not yet fully and clearly established. In spite of these ambivalences, the link between social and symbolic limits can be demonstrated rather convincingly.
