The opening chapter offers a rationale for the book and a summary of its contents. Written from a practitioner’s perspective, it aims to promote the use of dramatherapy with people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) – also known as emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD) – on specialist personality disorder wards, mixed-diagnosis step-down units, general mental health wards and mental health day services. A recommendation of intended readership is specified and the difference between Parts 1 and 2 explained. The ongoing issue of stigma in mental health is addressed and a brief description of the writer’s personal motivation for writing the book is included.
