ABSTRACT
On 1 January 1973 Britain joined the European Economic Community. Although transport policy appears to have taken little or no place in the final negotiations prior to British entry, the British transport sector, like the rest of the economy became subject to the appropriate Community law. Thus, in examining the prospects for British transport policy during the 1970s we must understand and appreciate the context of European transport policy into which it must be set.
