ABSTRACT
The city of Vladivostok had undergone a complete transformation during Kolchak’s year of absence from Russia. It had never been a highly populous city, having perhaps 100,000 inhabitants prior to the Revolution. Now, that population had doubled, having within these ranks an extremely diverse range of people. The saddest grouping among this cocktail of humanity; cutthroats, robbers, speculators and refugees, were the remnants of the old nobility.
