Commitment, Involvement and Belief

After the empirical examination of attachment, the other three elements of Hirschi's Social Control Theory - commitment, involvement and belief-are examined in this chapter. Each one of the three elements of Hirschi's theory is individually operationalised in the social, cultural and religious context of Edinburgh's Pakistani community; the analysis of each of the three elements constitutes a section of the chapter.
