ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to look at three theories which address the relationship between news, politics and conflict and to consider those theories in relation to the research material used in this study. The research findings of this study have implications for thinking about the impact of news on politics and reference to established theories such as those used in this chapter will help to make pronounced those implications and highlight the significance of this study as a contribution to media theory. Each of the theories is concerned with how politics and news interact and the role of news in relation to conflict, the political process and peace.
