ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to examine television news coverage which surrounded the IRA ceasefire of August 1994 and to compare the implications of that coverage in relation to views expressed about reporting by politicians, journalists and editors. The value of this comparison is that it helps to test the validity of the interview material through actual examples of reporting, and provides primary evidence by which to assess the role of news in the political discourse(s) of the peace process.
