ABSTRACT
The Northern Ireland peace process marked a significant change in the political landscape of Northern Ireland. The British government under prime minister John Major engaged with the Irish government under prime minister Albert Reynolds, to try and produce in consultation with the respective political parties, a framework for addressing what was seen as the main issues underlying conflict. Put simply, the inception of the peace process signalled the development of a conflict resolution process and a move away from entrenched conflict.
