ABSTRACT

This chapter builds the theoretical foundations and principles for the “Business In Nature” (BInN) concept, a new perspective to tackle the Anthropocene challenges and to guide managers in rethinking today’s corporate sustainability schemes. The BInN concept is defined as “creating a significant positive impact in societies as well as increasing the resilience of social-ecological systems.” The BInN concept calls for enlarging the boundaries of action along the entire value chain, challenging companies to rethink the way they do business from the sourcing of raw materials to the end of life of the product. The BInN concept rests on four different groups of actions that will guide the next following four chapters of this book.
