ABSTRACT
At the core of this book is the concept of the marital continuum which encapsulates the fluid and discursive nature of Sasak marriages as they occur on the eastern Indonesian island of Lombok. For many Sasak their marital lives are not marked by neat, linear trajectories. Instead, the often complex and chaotic realities of their unions play out across key stages of the marital continuum – stages which I have depicted in the chapters of this book.
