ABSTRACT
The outburst of street demonstrators in late 2011 and early 2012 provided a thread of unity for disparate oppositional groups in Russia. They were unsuccessful in that the regime remained secure, but successful in that Medvedev and Putin were compelled to rush promised reforms into law. 1
