ABSTRACT

While most current guides to therapy lay out a step-by-step instruction manual for clinicians to follow within a therapeutic setting, this book does not subscribe to that philosophy. The primary reason is because it creates a mindless and drone-like mentality and implementation to the practice of psychology and therapy. Armed with appropriate knowledge, a clinician can use that same awareness where they best see fit, which humanizes the experience rather than following a laid-out script. If an outline or decision tree is created with the instructions to follow it closely, then one is no longer working therapeutically, but following blindly. The point of using archetypes, video games, and virtual worlds together is to work with video gamers based upon their experience and the clinician’s aptitude. This book provides the information necessary to do just that.
