ABSTRACT

It has been said that there are no resistant clients, only unimaginative therapists. Perhaps current theory and practice in the helping professions have not developed ways to deal with resistance which are 100 per cent effective. On the other hand, human beings choose their behaviour and they cannot be manoeuvred into better choices, no matter how inventive the counsellor might be if they are determined not to change. Still, there are creative interventions for dealing with resistance which are congruent with Reality Therapy. These are called paradoxical techniques.
