ABSTRACT

Most people like to listen to stories and many people enjoy telling stories, especially about themselves! With some individuals they will tell a repetitive story over and over again, often about a painful event from which they have not recovered. Stories in a sense are ‘the fabric of society’ as events and rules and customs are passed on from generation to generation. Sadly, much of this has been taken over by television where live interactive storytelling becomes a passive, spectator activity; many viewers feel quite intimidated by the skills of the stars telling children’s stories. Some parents hand over the storytelling activities to CDs and DVDs rather than tell stories themselves.
