ABSTRACT
The material presented permits one secure conclusion. Sociologie du travail has been a complex branch of French social science, divided organisationally, heterogeneous methodologically, and pluralist in terms of its substantive theories. But the choice of objects of study, and the implicit agreement on the salience of issues which lie in or around the activity of production, have spun a common strand: an even deeper affinity will be identified in due course.
