ABSTRACT

Expanding upon the previous chapter, this chapter examines the growing impetus to generate ‘impact’ with research activities and how to work with others outside of academia. Exploring what this may look like, the chapter considers the potential of working with other sectors through undertaking engagement activities that disseminate your research to populations and publics that you may not typically reach, and as hinted at in the previous chapter, the importance of fostering relationships beyond the academy. The chapter is grounded in the principle that HE is no longer an ivory tower and that academia is simply another professional workforce that can, and arguably has a responsibility to, engage with other workforces to ensure fruitful sharing of knowledge, information, and ideas.
