This chapter examines singing as a global phenomenon and discusses the vibrant nature of choral communities around the world. The Dimensions of World Music Pedagogy (Attentive Listening, Engaged Listening, Enactive Listening, Performing World Music, and Creating World Music) are introduced and defined, and a rationale for the inclusion of WMP within the choral curriculum is forwarded. The possibilities for integrating World Music Pedagogy into choral music education are discussed, including such topics as choosing a culture, developing a flexible repertoire of WMP units, and issues of authenticity. The chapter also provides an overview of the entire volume, and the Conductor’s Corner features choral conductor and world music advocate Sharon Gratto.
