ABSTRACT
THE bloodiest wars in the world have been fought for spices. For spices and religion, it being difficult to know which comes first. For the question of spices and religion is inextricably mingled, so that it is difficult to say which has caused the most bloodshed. All that it is to-day safe to say, is that the civilized races are those that use spices and cook their food, barbarism being denoted by the eating of barely singed meat or matter out of tins.
