ABSTRACT
The rise of China in photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing and installation has been a global spectacle. The rise started with PV manufacturing for export. China’s PV manufacturing industry has expanded at astonishing speed since the mid-2000s, and has established itself as the largest in the world since 2009. The domestic installation of PV power did not take off until around 2009, but has been skyrocketing since then. In 2015, China has surpassed Germany as the country of the largest installed PV power capacity.
