ABSTRACT
Since the People’s Republic of China (PRC) was founded in 1949, it has restructured and reformed its economic institutions several times and in many aspects. The purpose of this chapter is to familiarize readers with the underlying political and economic context. In order to better understand the evolution of energy policies, they must be put in the context of broader political economy.
