ABSTRACT

When most people think about research, their mind jumps to the images of white coats, experiments, and maybe even a Pavlovian puppy or two. Surely, experimental designs have great value for advancing knowledge and technologies that inform best practices in counseling. However, there are a number of design classes within the realms of applied research and program evaluation that can be helpful additions to your toolkit. All of these designs contribute to the corpus of best available evidence (Lenz, 2018). With so many designs available, how can you decide which ones will meet your needs? The answer lies in the nature of your research question.
