ABSTRACT
Working in a healthcare setting with members of the public is a very responsible role, and you must be aware of your legal obligations and your patients’ rights. The three most important issues pertaining to the legal aspects of your role are confidentiality, consent and record-keeping. This chapter will unpick each of these concepts, and will provide a few useful tips to enable you to fulfil your legal obligations and to ultimately protect your patient and yourself. Legislation relevant to the topics to be discussed is listed in Box 7.1.
