ABSTRACT

There is a parable in Africa that teaches: If the young are not initiated into the village, they will burn it down just to feel its warmth. There are many ways to interpret the burning of a community, but youth-on-youth violence is certainly one of them. According to the Center for Disease Control (2014), homicide has been the leading cause of death for ten- to twenty-four-year-old African American males and females for decades. On many social indicators, Black children are not surviving.
