ABSTRACT

In a democratic society, developing students’ abilities to think critically and solve problems are pivotal goals. The aim is to develop students into independent and self-motivated learners. Embodied in this goal is the notion that effective teachers allow, encourage, and challenge students to understand how to find information, evaluate, and use information. If the development of independent learners is truly the goal of education, then it is important to teach students how to think, not what to think.
