ABSTRACT
On November 18, 1891, as soon as all three translation committees were formed, the translators met with members of the executive committees in the rooms of the BFBS in Shanghai. The cost of the travel expenses—as most later expenses—were shared by the three Bible societies. 1 The purpose of the meeting was to organize and coordinate the work of the translation committees and to define the principles of translation. Of all the elected translators, only Gibson of the Easy Wenli committee and Goodrich and Nevius of the Mandarin committee could not attend.
