ABSTRACT
Unlike the other stories of rituals I have included, I was not present at Nicola’s, nor did I share in the planning. I had known Nicola for some years through feminist theology networks, and when I spoke about my research at a conference, she offered to be interviewed about a ritual she had enacted just before her hysterectomy. Her ritual emerged from a prayer-poem, This Woman’s Body, which she wrote and subsequently published (Slee 2004) and so my telling of her story is based both upon her interview and her written text.
