ABSTRACT
Increasing use of tractors in the Near East/North Africa and Asia. The development of regional markets and strong links with Europe are expected to be im portant engines of growth for N orth African countries. Oil wealth will continue to underpin developm ent in the Near East. Economic develop m ent will be coupled with continued growth in non-agricultural em ploym ent and the migration of people from the land to urban areas. By 2030, over 75 percent o f the population in the Near East/ N orth Africa region will be living in urban areas. The option of using tractors becomes more viable with increasing costs of labour and increasing shortage of land for fodder production for d raught animals.
