ABSTRACT
We began by contrasting strain, control, and cultural deviance perspectives on delinquency. Throughout the book, I have emphasized my belief that their assumptions are basically incompatible. Before I summarize what the data have had to say about each of these perspectives, let us look for a moment at their origins.
