ABSTRACT
Surprisingly, the existence of a link between tax/transfer policy and the distribution of income has been cast in doubt. Although a large body of research has concluded with great consistency that the distribution of income in advanced economies is indeed linked to the level and structure of transfers and taxes, this conclusion has not become generally accepted as an established finding.
