ABSTRACT
The realisation of the EXPO’98 World Exposition created the opportunity to redevelop a large stretch of the Lisbon waterfront, degraded by decades of neglect and by the decay of its former shipping and industrial uses. The redevelop ment area, which extends considerably beyond the 50 ha of exposition precinct, has received the most modem urban infrastructures, and development will proceed apace throughout the next decade.
