ABSTRACT

Roger Buckley's book, a monograph on the British aspect of the allied occupation of Japan, is based primarily on British and American archive materials that have recently been declassified in line with the thirty-year rule. Unlike the Nish book, which dwells on mutual perceptions, Buckley's book is concerned with British perceptions of Japan and the United Srates' perceptions of Britain, and pays little attention ro Japanese perceptions of either.
