ABSTRACT
In their efforts to obtain reliable water supplies the developed countries have, literally, moved mountains. They have dam med and flooded, piped, pumped, diverted and canalled, and altered the courses of major rivers. They have removed the salt from sea water, investigated the economics of using supertankers to deliver water like oil, and even studied the prospect of towing icebergs from the Antarctic to melt down for tap water.
