ABSTRACT

In the current climate of strategies and target -setting it is easy to forget that an essential characteristic of a teacher's role is the development of a human relationship with children. At the beginning of the new millennium it is also remarkable how closely the contemporary pedagogical relationship resembles that which existed between the elders of preliterate societies and their children. As with our distant ancestors, teachers are there to help interpret the mysteries of the world for young minds and equip them with skills necessary to assume a purposeful role in the society.
