ABSTRACT
The caption provided for each of the situations depicted in the set of cartoons has been kept as simple and readable as possible, while retaining the meaning of the original description on which the cartoon was based. Of course, teachers should feel free to modify or rewrite the captions should they feel that the originals are unsuitable for any reason. When working with children whose competence as readers is deemed not to be sufficient, teachers may wish to dispense with the captions altogether, and conduct the activities by providing oral commentary on the cartoons as well as oral instructions.
