ABSTRACT
Strategies for agricultural development are difficult to typify for all the developing countries of the world. There are, none the less, certain key issues that are currently being highlighted in debates concerning appropriate agricultural targets and strat egies for Third World development. These include:
• export versus food-crop production • large versus small-scale farming • the role of marginal versus more favourable agricultural
lands • the role of external assistance, and the role of the private
versus the public sector.
