ABSTRACT
One-third of the land surface of the United States, 754 million acres, is forest land. Of that total, about 500 million acres are classified as commercial forest land, suitable and available for continually growing crops of timber (this does not include land, otherwise suitable, withdrawn for parks or wilderness areas in which harvest is precluded).1
